Distinction Evidence- Must Do- On the Bus at Tech

On Tuesday we had Tech,
I was really excited for Tech because we were moving into our new groups.

On the bus I made sure I sat three to a seat and that I was only talking to the people next to me.
I was also making sure I was not talking loud because if I talked to loud the bus would get very noisy.

When we got to Tech we walked over to the Textiles room. The first thing we did was get an introduction on textiles, we learnt about all the safety rules and we also talked about what we would be doing for the next 7-8 weeks.

We then got to learn how to thread a sewing machine. At first I found this very hard but then after Jordan showed me how to do it I became really good. Mrs Patterson then said to us that after morning tea we would be having a race to see who could thread a sewing machine the fastest.

At morning tea I made sure I ate my morning tea inside first and then went out side to play. I played a cool game on the playground with a few of my friends. I made sure I was getting involved at morning tea by not just standing around and talking.

After morning tea we did the race it was very fun. After the race we got the learn how to put the bobbin on the sewing machine. Xanthe and I went and got an Ipad and watched the video on how to do it. When I first watched the video it made absolutely no sense at all, but after Xanthe taught me how to do it I found it really easy.

Once we had done everything to our sewing machine eg. Threading it and putting the bobbin on, we got to start sewing straight lines on pieces of fabric. Because I had found sewing straight lines really easy, I decided to make a really small bag out of fabric.

On the way back I made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and to keep my voice level down so that the bus ride was not to noisy.

Distinction Evidence Student Council

Last week we had student council.

Because Mrs Trotter was away Ryan had to run the meeting by himself.
It was a shame because we did not get basically anything done because everyone was being silly.

The only thing we really talked about was the Toy Donation. Below are the condition and some information about what the toys need to be like.....
-The toy needs to be in great condition
-It needs to be washed and has to have no stains
-It needs to be Love-able???
 -You have to think if other kids are going to like it so not silly toys.
This is what we thought all the toys need to be like.


I participated fully because I was contributing as much as I could. I was also taking the notes in student council because I am the secretary.
I encouraged others to stop being silly and to participate in student council.
I was also being a great role model because I was not being silly and I was listening to the person who was speaking.

I encouraged others to use their CARE values so that they were being a bit more respectful.

Overall I think student council did not go very well because most people were being very silly but I make sure I personally was being respectful.

Distinction Evidence Student Council

On Thursday I had student council.

It was good because Mrs Trotter came so everyone was acting better then they do when she is not here.
The first thing we did was check to see who is here and who is not. After that we organised the agenda for what we would talk about today.

-Attendance
-Equipment Bins
We first talked about the toy donation, we decided that Ryan would find us some further information about this topic.

After that we talked a bit about the football nets we noticed that one of the football nets are up but the other is not. Someone said that they can put it up and they can also put up the little ones for the Kakano team.

So we then talked about the attendance because we had noticed that some people were not turning up, it was two classes in particular. We then said that we would need new representatives from those two classes.
And also we were talking about that we should not remind the other people to turn up because it is their responsibility to turn up.

We talked about how sometimes the senior kids want some different types of equipment not just balls.
We then came up with that we should have these buckets full of some equipment like cricket bats and tennis balls, those sorts of things.

Overall Student council went well because everyone was behaving and we talked about a lot.

Distinction Evidence Choir

On Friday I had choir.

I made sure I came to school really early so that I would not be late for choir.
The first thing we did was warm up our voices, we did this thing where you say 12345678 and then turn and say it again and then you basically count down from 8, we also did this thing where you say all of these different number and we clap on the number 5.

The first song we sang was out of the music festival book.
I am really looking forward to the music festival because we are getting really good at some of the songs like this little light of mine, the Mexican wave and the national anthem because we sing this song a lot like at the assemblies.

I showed my care values by turning up on time and not talking when Mr M or Miss H was talking.
I reminded some people about choir because I think they had forgotten about it.
I also made sure I brought all the things I needed like my choir book.
I was being a great role model by listening and only talking when we are allowed.

I did not go to Kapa Haka because I had something else I need to attend to.

Distinction Evidence Guitar With Mr M

Yesterday I had guitar with Mr M.

As part of my responsibilities I made sure I turned up on time, and had everything I needed.  The first thing we all did was tune our guitars.  Then we sat down at the music stands and got ready for our lesson.
The first song we played was the 12 bar blues. This song is really easy to play as it only uses a few cords.
We then played Hallelujah, Hallelujah is very easy now as I have been practicing it a lot lately.

We then learnt a new song.  This song was fun because Mr M said that we can play it in front of the whole school once we have mastered it. That is an exciting goal, and makes me want to practice it, as its great when we can show off our skills.

We also played Nga Iwi E, this is a song we have been practicing a lot lately.  I really enjoy playing this song as it is an upbeat song and you can get into it.

I also demonstrated my care value by being respectful to Mr M and the rest of my group.  I also encouraged some of my fellow friends to keep trying when they got frustrated with parts of the song they were trying to play.

I think I need to practice another new song we are paying because we have only just started learning it and I am not very confident on the switches.

Distinction Evidence Must Do At Tech and On The Bus

Yesterday the year 7 and 8's had tech.
Because bus 2 was a bit late we all had to stand in a single file line on the footpath next to the car park, and show respect, so that all the other parents could get through with no hassle.

On the bus I sat with Kyla and Grace.
I made sure that I was only talking to them because we did not want the bus getting to loud.
When we arrived at tech I quietly walked to the science room.


At science the teacher first told us about what we would be doing. He said we would be doing the coke and mentos challenge and also we would be burning chips.
We all went outside and Jordan got chosen to pull this piece of string which is attached to the bottle that will release the mentos into the bottle of coke.
We got a fountain of coke, but it was sad because the experiment only went for about 30 seconds.

We went back inside and watched a few videos and then we went out for morning tea.

When we came back from morning tea we got all of the equipment for burning chips.
Burning the chips was very fun and we got to find out how much energy was in the different types of chips.

Overall tech went well and we did some very fun things and I can't wait for next week as we are going onto the next group.

Distinction Evidence Peer Meditation

Today at peer mediation I had a few problems.

The first problem was that a little boy wanted to play with this girl but the girl did not want to play with the boy so they were yelling at each other.
What they agreed on doing is keeping away from each other and apologize to each other.

It was good that I did not have any major problems because then I did not have to get any teacher involved.
I remembered to turn up on time because if I did not then Poppy and Jessica would have to do peer mediation by themselves.

Another problem I had was that two boys were fighting over a ball and had gotten really angry with each other.
What they came up with to solve the problem was to play nicely together with they ball and to apologize.
They both did that and then played a great game of 1 on 1 soccer.

And the last problem was that a boy was throwing bark at people.
The first thing we did was go and get the boy.
Then I heard both sides of the story and then I explained to them what I thought they could do to solve this problem.
They all agreed that the boy would apologize to the other kids and that the boy that was throwing bark would come off the playground and play with his other friends on the field.
The boy went happily off the playground and when I checked in with him just before the end of lunch he said he had a AWESOME lunch playing football.

Overall I think peer mediation went well because we had some little problems and also they were not to hard to deal with.

Distinction Evidence Kapa Haka and Choir

Kapa Haka 

On Friday we had kapa haka. I made sure I turned up on time because if I did not then I would miss out on something and would not know what we are doing. The first song we went over was our new school song and then we got to make up some actions for it. Matua Rihari said that this was a very fun song so he wanted us to come up with some of the actions. Some of the actions are very funny. I made sure I showed respect to Matua Rihari by when he was talking I was not. I  reminded some younger students to be respectful because they were being a bit silly.

After kapa haka had finished the year 8's and some of the year 7's practiced they long poi. As the year 7's aren't doing the long poi this year we thought it was a good idea to start practicing as it can be quite difficult.

Choir

At choir the first thing we did was warm our voices up because then we would be able to sing better and we would sound better. First we sang some songs out of the music festival booklet we sang Poi E, This little light of mine and a few others. I think I am almost ready for the music festival which is coming up soon.

Miss H then showed us all this song on the TV. It looked a bit hard as apparently it was not any language it was just random words put together. The was also some recorder and drum playing and Miss H said we could even do that.

Distinction Evidence Guitar with Mr M

On Tuesday I went to guitar with Jackie and Monique.

When we first got there we tuned our guitars and talked to Mr M.

The first song we played was Nga Iwi E , Nga Iwi E is very easy as we having been basically playing it since we started doing guitar. 

We then talked a bit about Hallelujah as we have been learning it. We also played it a few times. I can play Hallelujah very well now because I have been practicing it a lot.

Mr M said all I have to work on it this new little bit that is in the song.

After a little break we played the 12 Bar Blues.

The 12 Bar Blue's are extremely easy as we have also been practicing them a lot.

We then talked to Mr M for a bit and then went back to class.

Overall that practice went well because we got to practice Hallelujah a lot of times.

Distinction Evidence Must Do At Tech and On The Bus

On Tuesday I had Tech.
Because our bus a bit late we had to wait on the footpath next to the car park in a single file line so that other parents could get threw.
On the way there I sat next to Monique, we made sure that we were not talking loud, because once one person starts talking loud other can't hear their friends so they then talk louder its not their fault it just can get a bit out of hand.
As we got off the bus I thanked the bus driver as I normally do.

I took off my bag and went and sat down at my desk in science.
Mr Roozen said we would be learning about electricity and that sort of things.
We all got a Brain Box, at first I thought it would be a bit boring but after I made a few things I found it quite fun. The first thing I made was a fan and then I made this thing that makes a fire engine noise when I press on this touch pad. Shannon then made a radio so Xnathe and I decided to make it we then went outside and we got quite a few different radio station like The Breeze and More FM.

At morning tea Taylor and I played on the playground for a bit and then we went over the field and by the class rooms we then found a ginger cat. A teacher told us that he was the schools cat. We were then wondering why we don't have a school cat.

When the bell went for the end of morning tea we went back to class and continued playing with the brain box.
When it was time to go we packed up and went on the bus.

Distinction Evidence Peer Mediation

On Monday I had Peer Mediation.
I made sure I turned up on time as if I don't then I will not be doing my job.
The people that are supposed to do peer mediation with me were late which is a bit annoying because I am always chasing them up about turning up.

The first problem was that a little boy wanted his mum so what I did was help him find some friends to play with. Once I had found him some friends he decided to play with them for the rest of lunch.
The next problem was that a boy shoved another boy over. They decided that they would apologize and play with someone else. Then I found the little girl and it was her first day and she was very nervous so I decided to try and find her some friends for her to play with. I found some girls playing in the sandpit so I asked them nicely if this girl could play with them the all said yes so she played with them and she looked like she was having a great lunch.

Overall I had a lot of problems but I managed to sort them all.

Distinction Evidence Student Council

On Thursday we had Student Council. Because Ryan was a bit late Meadow and I started off the meeting.
After Ryan came he then took over the meeting.
As there was no teacher at the meeting a lot of people were being silly. Which then made it hard to explain about what we need to talk about.

The first thing we tried to talk about was the toy donation.
We had organised for this to happen and what we would do is then seniors would rotate and each morning they would stand in the hall or something and they would collect all the books and toys. To do this we would have to have a guideline of the quality of the toy because we don't want to take in rubbish looking toys.
Once we have collected all of the stuff we would take them to the Salvation Army.
I think this is a good idea because the Salvation Army is always looking for donations.

I participated fully by contributing to all of the ideas and not being rude to others that are talking.
I was also a good role model to the years 4,5 and 6's because I was helping run the meeting with Ryan and Meadow.
I encouraged other to use their CARE values because they were being silly.

Distinction Evidence Kapa Haka and Choir

Kapa Haka

At kapa haka on Friday we were practicing for the open night that we were having on Tuesday. The songs we sang were He Honore, Whakataka Te Hau, The haka and Pa Mai. I was really excited to preform because it was only the year 6, 7 and 8's preforming.
We also got our Kapa Haka uniform because we were preforming in uniform.
After we had finished practicing Kapa Haka I went over and got a pair of long poi and started to practice.
Because I was a year 7 I would not be doing the poi this year but I will be next year.
It was really fun practicing the long poi because then next year I will have a better understanding of how to do it.

Choir

At choir the first thing we did was warm our voices up we did this number one and also this one where you have to say red lorries yellow lorries and say it over and over again it was really fun. 

We then sung some songs out of our music booklet which was really cool. We sang 'This little light of mine', 'The Mexican Wave' and many more.

To finish off choir we sang Hallelujah. Hallelujah is my favourite song in choir because we get to sing it in Maori as well as English.

On Tuesday Jackie, Monique and I had guitar.
The first thing we did was tune our guitars, then we sat down at the music stands ready for our lesson.

The first song we practiced was the 12 Bar Blues this song is very easy to play as we have been practicing this song for awhile.
Then Mr M gave us all a new song it was Hallelujah at first I thought this was a very hard song to play but now it is really easy and I am getting very good at it.
Another song we were playing was Fire flies this song is also very easy.

I showed my care values by showing up on time, being respectful to Mr M and also contributing to all the songs. At the moment my favorite song to play on the guitar is Hallelujah because it is a really cool sounding song and the strumming pattern is really fun to play.
When I first started playing Hallelujah I was really nervous because I thought I would not be able to play this song but now I have worked out how to do it and it is fun.

Distinction Evidence Must Do At Tech

At technology on the bus I sat at the back with Meadow, Xnathe, Monique and Grace, I made sure I was being quite because we were at the back and normally the people at the back are noisy. When we got to tech I quietly walked over to the class I was in which was science. The first thing we did at science was learn a bit about magnets. We had to create a cool title page and we also had to draw different types of magnets eg. Bar magnet and Horseshoe magnet. On the bar magnet it has a N and a S on them they stand for North pole and South pole. We all got given a bar magnet and found out that the south and north would attach but the north and north don't attach and vice versa. Me and Jordan  were trying to attach the magnets to our braces but the would not because the magnet would only attach to iron, nickel and cobalt. At morning tea I played this game Sam came up with called Thread. It is when we have this piece of thread and you have to try and place it on someone else. It is basically tag. After morning tea our science teacher then told us that we would have to dissect a greenlip mussel. When we first got the mussel it stunk so much. I found this a bit gross because I don' really like the idea of dissecting something. We then had to do this drawing of the mussel.
Overall I had a good time at tech and I made sure I showed my CARE values.

Distinction Evidence Peer Mediation

At peer mediation I was a bit disappointed because no one turned up to do their job of peer mediation.

So that meant I had to do it by myself.

The first problem I had was 7 kids could not tie their shoelaces up so I had to do that. 

Then when I went over to the playground someone was sad because another boy said that some show was for baby's and what I did was ask to hear both sides of the story and then explain what I think is the problem is. They then agreed to say sorry and keep away from each other.

A new entrance girl came up to me and said 'I am going to walk around with you because I want my mum' I then said 'ok but I am going to try and find you so,e friends to play with'.

I walked up the deck to make sure everything was ok and it was. I saw a bunch of new entrance kids playing there so I asked if this other girl could play. They then said yes so she went off happily and played with them.

As I was walking around by the music room I saw that someone was on the ground crying. I walked over to her she told me she fell off the wall of the deck. It seemed to be that her knee really hurt so I took her over to a Duty teacher and she put an ice pack on her knee.

Overall I think peer mediation went better then normal because no one was distracting me and I could walk around the junior area faster. Next time I hope that the other people on peer mediation turn up.

Distinction Evidence Kapa Haka and Choir

Disclaimer: This blog post is from term 2 but I forgot to upload it.

Kapa Haka

At Kapa Haka we were practicing for the end of term celebration of learning. I was really excited for this as it would show off all of our great work. The songs that we would  preform were He Honore, Whakataka Te Hau and Pa Mai. We were preforming these songs because they were the songs we knew best.

We also got our positions for how we would be standing. The boys would stand on the stage the year 4-7 girls would stand on the ground and the year 8's would stand on chairs because I am tall me and a couple of other year 7's stand on the chairs with the year 8's.

Choir

For choir we were practicing for the end of term celebration of learning. The songs that we would preform at the assembly were Money Money Money and Hallelujah. We have worked so hard this couple of terms for choir so I am super excited to be preforming. We also got where we wold be standing for the assembly. The year 7 and 8's would be standing on chairs on the floor, then the littler kids made a couple of rows behind us on the stage and then the special choir (they are the people that harmonize with the rest  of the choir.

I really enjoyed preforming for choir and kapa haka. It went amazing and I can't wait to preform again. 

Distinction Evidence Student Council

At student council there was no teacher there to supervise us so we did not have much to talk about.

Ryan and I used our initiative by coming up with things to talk about.

Soccer Goals:

This week we realised that some Soccer goals got put up.

When we got to the meeting we realised that some year 6 student council reps went and talked to their teacher who looks after all the sports equipment. He then went into the sports shed and realised we had some soccer goals. So that the. Solves the problem about soccer goals.

The year 6 reps then said that the teacher wants to put turf underneath the goals.

The problem with having turf underneath the goal is that the boys would then not be able to dive to catch the ball. So I think this could be a discussion about if we changed the turf to maybe artificial grass or maybe even sawdust. 

Toy Donation:

So for the last couple of week we have been talking about having a toy donation for the Salvation Army. What we would do is in the morning parents would bring their old toys and books and then we would see if they are in good enough condition if they are not we would not be able to take them.

We would then take them to the Salvation Army.  

Distinction Evidence At Technology and on the bus

On Tuesday we had Technology.
On the way to technology I sat next to Kyla, This time we had a Metro bus so it was a lot more packed.
The change in type of bus made a difference because some people we almost falling off their chairs and everyone was a lot more louder also because of how small the bus was and once one person started talking loud everyone else started. I made sure Kyla and I sat quietly and only talked to each other.
The first thing we did at science was watch some videos and talk about some planets. Mr Roozen said we would be doing a science experiment on who can ride the skateboard the fastest for 10 metres.

Some people were not so keen on 10 metres so he took it down to 5 metres.

At morning tea I played on the playground as the field was shut.

My friends and I had a good morning tea as we played a game of tag.

When we got back to class we made goop to represent how when you keep it moving is is firm but when it is just sitting on your hand is becomes a liquid. This was a cool experiment as we got to get our hands dirty. 

On the way back to school I made sure I was showing the care values by only talking to the people next to me and not speaking loud or else the bus driver with get distracted.

Distinction Evidence Guitar With Mr M

At guitar we were lucky enough to play in front of the whole school at the end of term celebration of learning. At practice on Thursday we played Nga Ewi E a lot because that was the song we were going to be playing for the school. There was six others playing in front of the school. I was showing the care values by not being silly whilst playing the guitar. I think Nga Ewi E is easy because we have been learning it for a long time now and it is one of many easy songs I know. On Tuesday we did not have guitar because Mr M was away so it was good that he came on Thursday because if he did not we would not have been able to go over the set up for assembly. The people that played guitar with me in front of the whole school was Monique, Jackie, Ye-Jon, Jessie, Meadow and Mia. By having the opportunity to play at the whole school it is great role modeling for the Kakano team and younger students in the Kauri team. BY seeing all 7 of us playing in front of the school the might want to play guitar on any other instrument. We were also lucky enough to have Sophie playing the drums to Nga Iwi E as well us us. I think the guitars mixed with the drums was a great idea. I think the overall performance was great and I hope I can do it again.
