Merit Evidence Can do- Head Students Leadership Meeting

On Monday we had a leadership meeting

The first thing we did was catch up with Mr Ladbrook on what sort of things were going to do for the run bike run which is next week.

Then he told Jack and I that we were going to have to write a speech for the run bike run.
So Jack and I started to write a speech while Kyla and Dylan finish off our poster competition guidelines.

So for the whole time we just kept writing the speech and then it was the end of morning tea so we had to finish up.

The Care Value I was using was Active Thinking because I was helping Jack with putting together the speech

Merit Evidence Must do- Technology

On Tuesday I had technology

On the way there I sat with Taylor we talked to each other we had to remind some other people on the bus to make sure they we being quite because it was getting a bit loud.

Once we arrived I got off the bus and walked to the Design room Grace.
Samara was away so I had to try and finish off making the 3-D printed whale for her but the 3-D printer was not working so I got to help Reia with her pillow.
Then I went outside to see what the boys were making because apparently it is a secret project but I know what it is and then I went to help some other people.

The Care Values I used was Active Thinking because I found something else to do when the 3-D printer was not working I also used Community because I was helping out reia

Merit Evidence Can do- Guitar with Mr M

On Tuesday I had guitar with Mr M.

The first thing we did was play a few songs that we will be playing on Thursday at choir one of them was Hello which I was really excited about because I have gotten really good at it.

The we practiced some bar tabs and I am slowly getting the hang of how to do them but I still need a lot of practice.
The we went over to the piano and he played Hello on the piano whilst we played it on the guitar.

The Care Value I was using was Respect because I was showing respect to Mr M

Merit Evidence Can do- Guitar with Mr M

On Tuesday I had Guitar,

The first thing we did was practice some songs that we are going to be playing in choir this year.

Then we practiced some bar tabs, bar tabs are really hard so by the end of the year I want to be able to play bar tabs.
I realy want to be able to play bar tabs because then it makes playing some chords easyer.

After doing that for a bit I asked if we could play Hello.
Mr M said yes so we then practised this song.

We then practiced some other new songs that we have just gotten .

The learner quallities I was showing were resillince and also communicate because I was never giving up and i also was communicating with the other people I do guiatr with so I also knew what we are doing.

Merit Evidence Must do- Technology

On Tuesday we had tech.

On the bus I sat near the back with Taylor.  We made sure that we were not talking too loud because we did not want the bus to get too noisy. We also made sure that the people around us weren't shouting.

When we arrived at Lincoln Primary, I walked to the design room with Samara and once we got there we got out all the resources we needed and then did the roll and then we sat down at the table we normally sit at.

We got told that today we would be designing what we wanted to make for the rest of the time we are in design.
Samara and I are making a 3-D printed whale.
Mrs Scott told us that today she was going to be having a workshop on how to design stuff to send to the 3-D printers. It was really really hard to use this software to make our design so we had to keep trying until we got what we liked.
So for the rest of the time we were there we were trying our best to design our whale.

On the way back from tech I also sat next to Taylor again and like when we were coming to tech we made sure we were quiet.

The learner quality I used was resilience because when Samara and I were trying to make the whale we both found it really hard to make using the software, but we never gave up and kept trying.

Merit Evidence Can do- Head Students Leadership Meeting

On Monday we had a Leadership meeting.
It was at Morning Tea and a couple of the boys weren't able to be there because they had another meeting.

Mr Ladbrook started off the meeting by talking to us about Integrity and about how all good leaders have Integrity and that you always have to tell the truth no matter what and that you need to be fair and stand up for what is right.

After that we watched a video it was about tips on how to be a good leader.
A few things it told us was to always listen to your conscience and also to always tell the truth even if you think you could get away with a lie.

After talking a bit more about the video we went outside to play.

The learner quality I showed was Communicate because I was contributing to the discussion we had when we were talking about integrity.

Merit Evidence Can do- Guitar with Mr M

On Tuesday I had Guitar with Mr M.

The first thing we did was try and practice some bar tabs.
I find these really hard because my fingers can't exactly go across the whole fret.

After we did this we got a new song that I wanted which is Hello by Adele.
This song is quite easy because the chords are just em, c, d and g and also the strumming pattern is really easy.

Then we practiced some songs that are written in music notes.
I found this a little hard because I can't really read music yet.

The learner quality I was using was question because when I didn't know what I was doing I was making sure I was asking questions.

Merit Evidence Can do- Head Students Leadership meeting

On Monday we had a leadership meeting.
The first thing we did was talk about the book that we are going to read today. Then we read the chapter.
This chapter was about how nobody likes a goody two shoes.
It also talked about how you've got to have equal parts fun and responsibility.
If you have more responsibility than fun you're most likely to come across as a goody two shoes.
But if you have equal part fun and equal part responsibility then you are less likely to be a goody two shoes or get called a goody two shoes.
Then we all split off into our groups I am working with the heads and deputy's.
We then talked about what we need to do to finish off our organisation for our poster competition idea.

The learner quality I used was collaborate because I was making sure I was taking part in the conversation about our idea and I was also putting forward ideas.

Merit Evidence Must Do- Food Forest Getting Involved

For the last two days we have been gardening.

Yesterday we helped Mr McAven with the weeding.
We got to use the secateurs to help get the weeds out.
I was on the wheelbarrow for a little bit and it was fun because I got to empty all the weeds into the trailer.

Then today we got to pick all the sweet corn out of the maize maze.
We had to pull out the stalk and then put the corn in a bucket then we had to take turns at taking the wheelbarrow to the trailer.
By the end of the job the trailer was full.

The care values that I used were Community because I was helping out other people to get the job done and also Active Thinking because I was coming up with ideas to help move the Wheelbarrow faster.

Below are some photos of what we have been up to.

Merit Evidence Can Do- Guitar with Mr M

On Tuesday I had guitar with Mr M.

My goal for this year is to learn how to read music properly.

This week we practiced tabs.
I really don't like tabs because they sometimes hurt my fingers and also my fingers aren't long enough to properly do it.
But I still try to do it.
We practiced Hallelujah, 12 Bar Blues and also Passenger Let Her Go.
I really like Hallelujah because I know how to play it off by heart.
I don't mind the 12 Bar Blue's but he did try to make us play it in tabs and it was really hard.
And I love Passenger Let Her Go because I love the song and also I love to play it because it does not use any hard chords.

The learner quality I used was resilience because when we were trying to play songs in tabs I never gave up and I kept trying.

Merit Evidence Must Do- Whole School Assembly

On Monday we had a whole school assembly and Kyla, Jack and I got to host it.

We each got a couple of sections that we had to read.

In this assembly we got two Peer mediators (Taylor and Zach) and two Pals leaders (Scott and Anneke) to present and talk about what Peer mediators do and also what Pals do.
The reason why we did this is for a couple of reasons one is so that the littler kids know what each of them do and also so then maybe they wont get mixed up with Pals and Peer mediators.
We also had a minute of silence for it being 5 years since the 2011 earthquake.

I had a lot of fun hosting this assembly.

The learner quality I used was collaborate because I was collaborating with Kyla and Jack to make sure we got the job done.

Merit Evidence Can Do- Head Students Leadership Meetings

On Monday we had a leadership meeting.

The first thing we did was get out our laptops and finish writing a merit blog post, but I had already done this last week. So instead I got to practice what I am going to be saying in assembly because Kyla, Jack and I were hosting it.

This assembly had a lot about leadership in it because the Pals and Peer mediators got to speak about what they are and what their job is.

I really enjoyed hosting assembly and I hope I get to do it again sometime.

The learner quality that I used was collaborate because I had to collaborate with Kyla and Jack to be able to run assembly nicely.

Merit Evidence Can Do- Head Students Leadership Meetings

On Wednesday we had a leadership meeting.

The first thing we did was talk about Friday because we are having a swimming sports day.
Then Mr Ladbrook got a book and we each had a go at reading a random bit out of it, then he would give us feedback on what we needed to work on.
Then after that Kyla (Deputy Head Girl), Dylan (Deputy Head Boy), Jack (Head Boy) and I went to go and practice our speech for Friday. After practicing for awhile we went and got the microphone and practiced saying it with a microphone .
Once we had mastered our speech we went and finished our Google doc with our idea for a school poster competition.
Then it was time to go back to class

The learner qualities I used was respect because when we were working on the doc I made sure I was respecting the other peoples ideas.

Merit Evidence Must Do- At Technology and On The Bus

On Tuesday we had tech.
On the bus I sat at the back with Sophie, Kate, Maddy and Taylor
We made sure that we were not talking too loud because we did not want the bus to get too noisy.

Once we got to Lincoln Samara and I walked over to Design.
We had a relieving teacher because Miss Scott was away.
She told us that today we would be making badges out of clay.
We had to put things on our badge that we liked.
We got to choose one main colour for our badge and also two other colours.
The first thing we did was draw out what we wanted our badge to look like mine had the YouTube play button on it and also a music note as I love to play guitar.
Then we got to actually make our badge.
It was really hard to make the badge because I did not really know how to make one, but my finished product was pretty good.
My finished product was a light blue badge with a red and white play button and a yellow music note.
I really enjoyed making this badge because we got to design it our self.

On the way back I sat at the back again with the same people and I talked to Sophie about what we were going to do at lunch.

The Learner quality that I used was resilience because when we were making the badges I found it hard but I made sure that I never gave up.

Merit Evidence Can Do- Guitar With Mr M

On Tuesday I had my first guitar lesson with Mr M for the year.
My goal for this year is to be able to read music.

The first thing Mr M got us to do was face away from the whiteboard and try and show him some newer chords that we may have forgotten from last year.
Then he got us to play the 12 Bar Blue's.
After that he gave us that song in music notes.
We practiced that for a bit.
I was really nervous for this because that meant I had to read music.
At this point I can only read a little bit of music, but my aim is to able to easily read music.
Then he gave us a few other songs with music notes.

The learner quality I was showing was resilience because reading music is not that easy and it will take me awhile to learn how to read it properly.
