Excellence Evidence- Can do- Student Council #7

On Wednesday I had student council
I made sure that I turned up to it on time and had everything I needed.

The first thing we did at student council was take the roll and then we reminded everyone about the rules and not speaking unless you have the talking piece.

Today we talked about possible ideas for the playgrounds at Oaklands in the future.  Some of ideas that the group thought of were: having a water fountain on the field instead of having to go all the way back towards the classrooms when thirsty, having a more colourful playground, Having an outdoor learning centre with tables and chairs under shade, a rope climb, a spiderweb and a giant slide that leads to a ball pit.  These ideas were all listed down for Mrs Trotter to take back to the education brief team.

The care value I showed was active thinking as we had to think hard about what would make the playground more exciting, but also practical.   I also was being a good reole model  because I was listening to others and showing respect, and helping run the meeting.

On Wednesday I had student council
I made sure that I turned up to it on time and had everything I needed.

The first thing we did at student council was take the roll and then we reminded everyone about the rules and not speaking unless you have the talking piece.

The first thing we talked about was possible names for the school in the future again because we didnt really know what else we were suppose to talke about, and Mrs Trotter wasnt there to guide us. Some of the possible names that were mentioned from other classes were Ti Kouka School (cabbage tree),Harakeke school (Flax)  becuase the area use to have a lot of cabbage trees and flax bushes and they are culturally significant to the area.  Also things like Pavalova Schoo, Kiwi School, Westlake school.  However most also thought that the current name was the post appropriate.

After that we talked about the homework which was going to be out of those names which did we like the best.   The class reps were to take the ideas back to their classrooms to ask.

The care value I showed was active thinking as we had to come up with an agenda on the spot for the meeting.  I also was being a good reole model  because I was listening to others and showing respect, and helping run the meeting.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Kapa Haka #6

On Friday I had Kapa Haka, I made sure I turned up on time and that I had my long poi.

First we all got into our lines and wewere told we are going to learn two new songs Ka Waiata and another one, the name of which i cant quite remember..
We first sung Ka Waiata and then we practiced the actions to the other new song. I really like the two new songs as it is nice to have a change to what we have been doing all year, practicing for the cultural festival.

We then talked about the next up and coming performances for the Kapa Haka which includes the gala.
The Care value I was showing was Respect because I was listening to Matua when he was speaking, Active thinking while I was trying to learn the new songs,  and I was showing leadership by being a good role model to the younger students.

On Wednesday I had student council
I made sure that I turned up to it on time and had everything I needed.

The first thing we did at student council was take the roll and then we reminded everyone about the rules and not speaking unless you have the talking piece.

Today we talked about the pet day that we are going to be having in the term 4.  We are also going to have a muffti day, with the money raised going to the SPCA which is a great cause, helping to feed and care for stray pets in our community.

We talked about some of logisitics around holding the pet day, who will collect mufti day money, who is giong to help sort out the pets and where they are going to go.  We also talked about the guideines around what pets can come, having vaccinations up to date, what pets needed to be in cages, whether parents needed to look after the pets etc.

The care value I showed was active thinking as we had to put our heads together and problem solve how this was going to actually work at school.  I also was being a good reole model  because I was listening to others and showing respect, and helping run the meeting.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Student Council #4

On Wednesday I had student council
I made sure that I turned up to it on time and had everything I needed.

The first thing we did at student council was take the roll to make sure that all classes were there, and if they werent we sent people to get the two classes who hadnt truned up.

Then we went over the rules and made sure everyone understood, and that you could only talk if you had the talking piece as we have been having issues with everyone talking over each other or to each other instead of taking part in the group discussion.

We went over what we talked about last week for homework which was if we were to change the name of the school what would we change it to. Lots of people had gone back to thier classes to talk about it so we had lots of different ideas. We made a list of the ideas and have given this to Mrs Trotter to help with the education brief and future of the school.

The care value I showed was Active thinking as we reminded all the students about the rules before we started to make the meeting a bit easier. I think i was being a good role model and leader chairing the meeting with Jack.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Kapa Haka #5

On Tuesday night we had the Cultural festival which was really exciting as we have spent all year working towards this night.  I made sure I turned up early, and then I spent about 40 minutes helping retie everyones skirts as the younger girls seemed unsure how to wear them properly.  I was wanting to make sure we all looked good and did the school proud in our Kapa Haka uniforms.

We all had to walk through the Arena, where all the parents and audience where sitting, so I made sure I was being a good role model and acting professionally by walking and sitting quitely and respectfully.

It was really interesting watching the other Schools perform at the Festival, and also nerve wracking as we werent performing until last.

I think our performance went really well, and the audience seemed to really enjoy the whole thing.  I am very proud of our school.   One thing that was scary, was having our faces broadcast on the big screen behind us, and knowing we were being recorded close up while we were performing.  But I am really proud of how well we did and it was fun to be able to represent our school.

The Care values I was showing were Respect, Excellence and Active thinking.  We had to show ourselves off to the best, and think on the spot in front of the audience.  I also showed community as I made sure all our group had their uniforms on correctly and helped those that were having trouble.  I think i was being a really good role model for our school on the night.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Kapa Haka #4

On Tuesday afternoon we had a practice run for the Cultural Festival at Horncastle Arena.

On the bus to and from the Horncastle arena I sat next to Taylor and made sure I was only talking to her, and keeping the noise level low, even though we were excited.

At the Arena, we were really early so had lots of time to kill before we were shown around the Arena and told where we had to go on the night.   We made sure we listened to Mr Brown and Mrs Baker and followed their instructions.

We got to do a very quick run through our four songs, and it was quite scary, as Taylor, Polly and I had to lead the start of Halleluliegh, and it sounded really quite in the huge arena.  We talked about using microphones on the night.

The rest of the practice was ok, but felt a bit awkward as we had to do it to a recording of the songs and it was at the wrong pace and key.  But it should sound alright on the night as we will have Matua live on stage with us.  I can't wait for the night where we actually get to perform.

The Care value I was showing was Respect because I was listening to Mrs Baker and Mr Brown and the hosts from the Cultural Festival for directions.   I was showing leadership by being a good role model to the younger students and doing the correct actions.

Excellence Evidence- Must do- At tech and on the bus #5

On Tuesday we had tech.
On the bus I made sure that I was quite and that I was only talking to the Brooke who was sitting next to me.
Once we got to tech we went to Mandarin, where we had to do a competition where we had to put the Mandarin numbers in order the quickest and our team won.  I found it quite easy.
After Mandarin we went back to the cooking room, washed our hands and put our aprons on. We then sat at our benches and did the roll.

This week we got to make whatever we wanted to make to do with the theme Kiwiana.  We chose to make Marmite and cheese pinwheels. Once they were made, we got to taste them. They tasted OK but we had put a bit too much Marmite in them and they were quite strong- Good to know for next time.

After that we had some spare time so we had to make books about kitchen safety.  We got given material on how to not get electric shocks in the kitchen.  We then packed up and got back on the bus to go back to school. Again i made sure I was being quite and only talking to Brooke.  When I got on and off the bus I said "Hi"and "thank you" to the driver.

The care value I was showing was respect for the driver and my teachers in Mandarin and Cooking.
I was being a good role model at morning tea time by doing the right thing.

Excellence Evidence- Must do- At technology and on the bus #4

On Tuesday we had tech.
On the bus I made sure that I was quite and that I was only talking to the person next to me.

On we got to tech we went to mandarin and then after that we went back to the cooking room.
We had to wash our hands and then get our aprons on.

After that we got the recipes for what we were making and that was Potato Pizza Pile ups.
I enjoyed making these because they were quite easy to make.

Then it was morning tea.
After morning tea we made cheese rolls.
They were also really good, after that we had to clean up and pack up everything.

On the way back I also made sure I was only talking to the person next to me and using a quite voice.

The care value I was showing was Respect because I listening to the other people around me and also helping them out when they need it.
I was being a good role model by showing respect on the bus and not talking to loud.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Student Council #4

We first talked about what we had to do for homework which was if we could have any other fundraisers what would they be and what would they be for.
They idea that came up with the most was a mufti day for Starship Hospital,

We then talked about how we would do this and also what we would do like a normal mufti day or have something different with the mufti day as well.

The care value I showed was Community because I was helping other people out, and I was being a good role model because I was listening to others and showing respect.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Kapa Haka #3

On Friday I had Kapa Haka, I made sure I turned up on time and that I had my long poi.

The first thing we did was start of by having a talk about how close the cultural festival actually is.
Then we got set up for a whole run through of our performance.
After we ran through the whole thing we then went and sat down and Matua talked to us about how we need to be singing louder because our first song is amazing but the next few aren't loud enough.

After we had been through the whole thing twice we had to do do it one more time and then we were free to go out to morning tea.
I think we did really well at our practice because we are sounding good and I can't wait for the night where we actually get to perform.

The Care value I was showing was Respect because I was listening to Matua when he was speaking and I was showing leadership by being a good role model to the younger students and doing the correct actions.

Excellence Evidence- Can do- Student Council #3

On Wednesday we had Student Council.
A lot of people were away because it was the say of the winter tournament.

First we did the roll and all the classes turned up which is good because then we didn't have to waste time going to get other classes.

After we did the roll we talked a bit about what the home work from last term was which was what are some future fundraisers the classes would like somethings that came up were something for St John, Salvation Army, Starship Hospital and City Mission.

Then once we had finished talking about that we talked about the Pet day we will be having in term 4 we talked about all the guide lines for bringing your pets to school some of the things you have to have are the animal must me kid friendly, must have be on a leash, in a cage etc and also must have all vaccinations up to date.

The CARE value I showed was Respect because I respected everyone's opinions and I was showing leadership by making sure I was being a good role model and not speaking when other are speaking.

Excellence Evidence- Must do- At technology and on the bus #3

On Tuesday we had tech.
On the bus I sat next to Brooke and I made sure I only talked to her and we weren't talking to loud.

Once we got to tech we got all the equipment we needed and went into the classroom and got our books from the front of the class and went and sat down.
Today we were making slime.
First we talked about the element of the day and also watched the video for that.

After talking for awhile about the element we talked about the science toy of the day.
Then it was time for morning tea so we went outside and played.

After morning tea we started to make slime.
First we watched a few videos about how to make it and then we got all the ingredients and made the slime.
The things we needed for slime are
-Pva glue (only some types work)
-Borax
-Water
-Food Colouring (Optional)
-Glitter (Optional)

First we put the glue and water in the cup and then we mixed that together next we added the food colouring but not to much as it could affect the slime and then the glitter you might want to add a lot because once everything is mixed the glitter will kinda fade.
After that then start to add the borax slowly and start to mix the mixture.
After mixing it for awhile it will start to form a slimy texture and you can then tip it into your hand and start to mold it to form the slime.

The CARE values that I showed were active thinking and respect because I was always thinking of ways to help and contribute to the class and I was also showing respect to the teacher by not talking when he was and I was also showing leadership by always contributing.

Excellence Evidence Can do- Student Council #2

On Wednesday I had Student Council.

At student council we first talked about the expectation of what we need to remember when we are at student council like one person talking at a time, the new three strike rule and also you can only talk if you have the talking piece.

Then we talked about what we had to go and talk to our classes about which was if their class wanted a pet day and if we had one would anyone bring their pets for a pet talent quest.
Another thing we also had to ask was if anyone would want to do face painting for the younger kids.
We went around the group and most classes said they wanted a pet day but not that many classes said they wanted the talent quest so we decided that we wouldn't do the talent quest.
A few people from our class said that they would help do the face painting so that means that could also be something we do.

Kyla then searched up it the SPCA wanted money or if the wanted pet food. One the website it says they only want money. We then organised when we would have the pet day and we settled for it being in term 4 because term 3 was going to be very busy.

Another thing Mrs Trotter brought up was that a man who lives close to the school said to her that when we are waking to and from school that kids are walking past and putting his dog and that it has actually bitten a kid so he said that he would happily come in aand talk to us all about how to deal with dos and how to approach them. So we thought that it would be a good idea if he came in term 4 to talk to us before the pet day so we all know how to approach anainals especially dogs.

I was being a good leader because I was making sure I had the meeting user control and that I was running it well. I was also showing community and respect because I was always listening to the person talking and not talking over them.

Excellence Evidence Must Do- Kapa Haka #2

On Friday we had Kapa Haka

The first thing I did was go and talk to Mr Brown because I wasn't really feeling confident doing the starting part for the poi we then went and talked and he said that I could pick two other girls to do it with me I chose Makayla and Taylor because they had to be people who are next to me.

After that we went through the whole performance for the cultural festival which is next term (term 3)
Once we went through the whole thing once we went through a few different songs so that we could perfect them. We also did poi quite a few times because we really need to practice it cause we only really just learnt it.

My favourite song out of the performance is Hareruia because I think it sounds awesome with the 4 of us starting it and then very one else joining in.

I was being a good leader by when Matua was speaking I wasn't and that when we were singing I wasn't being silly and just singing. The care values I was showing was active thinking becaus when I didn't think I could do the starting part of the song I went and talked to Mr Brown and we came up with a solution.

Exellence Must Do- At Technology and on the bus #2

On Tuesday we had technology.
On the bus I sat next to Brooke and we made sure we were only talking to each other and that we were talking quietly.

Once we got to tech we got off the bus and walked to class, I am in Science.
We went in, got our books and sat down.
We were making Water Rockets that day.
We talked for a bit and then we started to make our rockets.

At morning tea we went round to see some other people at design.

After morning tea we kept making our rockets and then once we had finished them we went outside and filled our rockets up with water and got ready to have a competition to see who's rockets went the highest.

On the way back I sat with Brooke again and we only talked to each other.

I was being a good leader by helping others when the need help and also showing respect. The Care Value and Learner Dispositions I was showing was Active thinking and Question because when I didnt know what I had to do I went and asked the teacher how to do it.

Excellence Evidence Can do- Kapa Haka #1

On Friday I had kapa haka
We started by doing Hareruia (Hallelujah in maori) and normally Taylor, Polly, Jack and I start the song off but all of them were away so we all just sang it as a group.

After singing that we practised our transitions from song to song and then everyone went and practised there different things like long poi and short poi.

For long poi at the moment we have just been trying to figure out what the order is going to be, after doing that for awhile we all went inside and practised our transitions between songs again and then kapa haka was over but they yr 8 boys and girls got to stay behind and practise what we needed to do so we all stayed behind and just keep going threw the song over and over again.

The care values I was showing was community and active thinking because I was helping everyone out and I was thinking of new actions for the song when we needed them.
I was also showing leadership by helping people out and always staying on task.

Excellence Evidence Must do- At technology and on the bus #1

On Tuesday we had technology.
On the bus I sat next to Taylor and we made sure we were only talking to each other and that we were talking quietly.

Once we got to tech we got off the bus and walked to class, I am in wood work.
I had already finished my tray so I decided to help Brooke with hers because she had been away for a couple of weeks.
At morning tea we played tag on the playground.

After morning tea I decided to make some coasters because brooke was nearly finished and she said she didn't need any help.
I worked with Samara and Isabella and we all helped make coasters.

The care value I was showing was community because I helped Brooke with her tray when she had been away for a while.
I was showing leadership by making sure I was not mucking around and was staying on task.

Excellence Evidence- Must do- Student Council #1

On Wednesday I had student council
I turned up at the right time and had all the equipment I need.

I then got the whiteboard and started to write out what we're going to talk about today.
After that I decided to begin the student council meeting because Mrs Trotter was not here yet.
I took the roll and then started to talk about some things for the future of Oakland's.

After doing that Mrs Trotter arrived and I carried on with the meeting.
We talked about some main things that we think we need for the rebuild of the school.
One thing we talked about was having water fountains on the field so that when we are thirsty we don't have to go all the way to one that is on the courts.
We also talked about having some more art around the school so it would be more colourful.
Another thing that came up was that we wanted more open classes like the ones in the year 7&8 area. I think that this would be a good idea because then we wells be able to do more collaborative learning.

The care values that I used was active thinking and respect because when Mrs Trotter want here yet I just started the meeting and I also showed respect by helping other if they didn't know what we needed to do.
I showed leadership by just getting on with the meeting and also being a good role model by not being silly.
